Cutting Board Care Guide

Basic Cleaning

1. Scrub the cutting board with a sponge and mild dish soap. You don't need to apply a lot of pressure.

2. Rinse the board with water, removing the soap. Holding it under running water is fine. Never completely submerge underwater or soak for any period of time.

3. Pat the cutting board dry with a clean cloth and allow it to air dry vertically to accelerate the drying process.

Removing Stains or Odors

1. Sprinkle baking soda over the cutting board. A small amount is fine, you don’t have to cover every spot of the board.

2. Add a small amount of lemon juice or vinegar and scrub gently with a sponge. Enough to get a slight lather.

3. Let the mixture sit for 2-5 minutes before rinsing with water.

Maintenance

1. Oil regularly to keep your wooden cutting board moisturized and prevent it from drying out. We use food-grade mineral oil. Other oils specifically designed for cutting boards will also work. Follow the application directions on the oil. If there are no directions, a general rule of thumb is to cover the board with a thin layer of oil. Allow the oil to dry for about 15 minutes. Wipe away excess. Allow the board to continue to dry overnight or 12 hours.

2. You can apply further protection in the form of a food safe cutting board wax. Wax after applying your oil and letting the board dry. Follow manufacturer's directions of the product you choose.

3. Resurface (when needed). With use, your wooden cutting board may develop cuts or scratches. To restore its smooth surface, you can lightly sand it with a fine-grit sandpaper (220 grit). After sanding, make sure to follow steps 1 and 2 of the Maintenance section.

Storage

Proper storage not only prevents the cutting board from accumulating moisture but also protects it from excessive heat and/or sunlight. Store it in a cool, dry place, and avoid placing it near a stovetop or other heat sources. Limit exposure to sunlight. UV tends to reduce the vibrancy of the wood's natural colors and may cause warping.
